TRON Proposes SELFDESTRUCT Upgrade to Enhance Security and Cross-Chain Compatibility

The TRON community has formally proposed a technical upgrade to the SELFDESTRUCT instruction, aligning its functionality with Ethereum’s EIP-6780 standard.

The modification introduces a 5000 energy cost for executing SELFDESTRUCT operations—previously free—to mitigate abuse risks and potential denial-of-service attacks.

Under the new protocol, full contract deletion will only occur when SELFDESTRUCT is invoked within its own contract, significantly refining security parameters and reducing unexpected behavior.

The strategic alignment with Ethereum’s standard bolsters cross-chain compatibility, streamlining contract deployment and management for developers operating across both ecosystems.

This upgrade reinforces TRON’s commitment to foundational stability and positions it as a more versatile, secure platform for decentralized application innovation.
