The South Korean Ministry of Small and Medium Venture Enterprises has announced plans to amend the Special Law for Venture Enterprise Promotion.
The proposed amendment aims to reverse a 2018 exclusion and designate eligible Bitcoin trading firms as certified venture companies.
Venture company status in South Korea is reserved for small and medium-sized enterprises or startups meeting stringent criteria, providing significant benefits such as tax incentives, investment opportunities, and enhanced financing access.
Since 2018, blockchain-based cryptocurrency trading and brokerage businesses were explicitly barred from obtaining this designation.
This legislative change signifies a major policy shift, signaling the government’s intent to integrate cryptocurrency asset firms into the national innovation ecosystem alongside other technology-focused ventures.
