The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has appointed four senior officials with deep digital asset and investment management experience, aligning leadership with Chairman Paul Atkins’ push towards pragmatic crypto regulation.
Brian T. Daly has been appointed Director of the Division of Investment Management, bringing significant expertise from his background overseeing hedge funds and investment firms to guide policy on complex financial products. Jamie Selway will lead efforts within the Division of Trading and Markets, leveraging his extensive fintech experience to advance the SEC’s focus on digital assets and market structure innovation.
Joining them are Kurt Hohl and Erik Hotmire in other key roles, integrating crucial industry knowledge into the SEC’s regulatory framework. These appointments follow signs of a changing enforcement approach at the SEC, including the recent pause or dismissal of several high-profile crypto cases, indicating a potential shift towards a more collaborative regulatory environment.
Chairman Atkins reiterated his commitment to ‘common-sense regulation,’ seeking a balance between robust investor protection and fostering responsible innovation within the rapidly evolving cryptocurrency sector.
