SEC Appoints Kevin Muhlendorf as New Inspector General to Bolster Oversight

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has selected Kevin Muhlendorf as its new Inspector General, with the appointment taking effect July 28. Muhlendorf brings substantial expertise in securities enforcement from prior roles at the SEC and private law practice.

His background includes specialized work on white-collar securities enforcement cases during his tenure at Wiley Rein LLP. Muhlendorf also served as Acting Inspector General at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) from 2023 to 2024, overseeing critical transit system operations.

The appointment is anticipated to reinforce the SEC’s internal oversight and enforcement mechanisms, strengthening the agency’s capacity to address regulatory compliance across financial markets.
