Polygon Prepares Major Heimdall 2.0 Upgrade to Enhance Proof-of-Stake Finality

Polygon’s most significant protocol upgrade since 2018-19, Heimdall 2.0, is set for launch on July 10 to bolster the Proof-of-Stake blockchain’s core stability and security.

The comprehensive hard fork targets fundamental improvements in block finalization capabilities, aiming to reduce confirmation times to approximately five seconds. This enhancement addresses network reliability concerns by minimizing chain reorganizations beyond two blocks.

Sandeep Nailwal, newly appointed CEO of Polygon Foundation, stressed the critical need for node operators to implement necessary preparations ensuring a seamless transition. The upgrade coincides with Nailwal assuming executive leadership as the foundation’s inaugural chief executive.

Beyond immediate performance gains, Heimdall 2.0 establishes foundational improvements enabling future advancements, including accelerated checkpoint processing and enhanced upgrade pathways for Polygon’s evolving infrastructure.
