Vitalik Buterin Proposes EIP-7983 to Boost Ether Security and Prevent DDoS Attacks on Ethereum
2025-07-08 13:56:07

Main Idea
Vitalik Buterin proposed EIP-7983 to enhance Ethereum's security by reducing the gas limit to prevent DDoS attacks and improve blockchain efficiency.
Key Points
1. EIP-7983 reduces the gas limit to approximately 16 million to prevent DDoS attacks and stabilize Ethereum's network.
2. The proposal includes enhancements like DDoS protection, improved zero-knowledge Virtual Machine design, and fairer gas fee distribution.
3. Transactions exceeding the 16 million gas limit will be filtered out, increasing predictability and security.
4. EIP-7983 addresses a critical vulnerability where a single transaction could consume an entire block's gas limit.
5. The Pectra upgrade and regulatory improvements have boosted optimism for Ethereum, with traders focusing on faster transactions and lower fees.
Description
Vitalik Buterin , Ethereum co-founder, finalised Ethereum Improvement Proposal 7983 (EIP-7983), which significantly reduces the gas limit to prevent DDoS attacks. EIP-7983 was proposed in late June, but had to wait for Buterin to sign it off. The imposed gas limit will place a cap of 16.77 million gas usage, which is 2^24. Buterin wishes to stabilise the network and make transactions more predictable. The gas limit was initially meant to be 30 million. The Ethereum community has debated the topi...
