Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has formally announced its ambitious plan to acquire 210,000 Bitcoin by 2027, positioning itself to surpass major competitors including Coinbase in Bitcoin holdings. This accumulation strategy aims to establish a leadership position in what the company describes as a ‘modern-day Bitcoin gold rush’.
The plan unfolds across two distinct phases spanning four-to-six years. The initial acquisition phase focuses on Bitcoin accumulation, while the subsequent capital utilization phase transitions from passive asset holding toward active engagement strategies with accumulated Bitcoin resources.
This staged approach provides operational flexibility while enabling the company to leverage its initial Bitcoin reserves as a financial buffer against market volatility. Furthermore, Metaplanet intends to pioneer corporate Bitcoin finance models through this progression from asset accumulation to active capital deployment.
The roadmap establishes 210,000 Bitcoin as the threshold that would propel Metaplanet ahead of current institutional leaders like Coinbase. The company underscored strategic urgency for rapid accumulation during early implementation stages.
