Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Treasury to 17,595 BTC, Targets 210,000 by 2027

Japanese financial services firm Metaplanet has significantly increased its Bitcoin holdings, acquiring an additional 463 BTC worth ¥7.995 billion ($55.17 million). This latest purchase brings the company’s total Bitcoin reserve to 17,595 BTC.

The acquisition is part of Metaplanet’s ambitious strategy aiming to accumulate 210,000 BTC by 2027. Interim targets include reaching 30,000 BTC by the end of the current year and 100,000 BTC by 2026, positioning Bitcoin as a core treasury reserve asset.

Metaplanet reports impressive year-to-date performance for its Bitcoin holdings, with the BTC Yield metric at 170%. Reflecting the strong appreciation of its Bitcoin position, the company’s Bitcoin per share has surged from 0.00088 to over 0.0201 in less than one year.

To finance ongoing Bitcoin purchases, Metaplanet recently raised ¥3.73 billion ($25.74 million) through the issuance of preferred shares. These shares carry a 6% annual dividend, providing funding for the strategic accumulation plan.

The firm’s underlying business also demonstrated robust financial performance, reporting record first-quarter FY2025 results. Quarterly revenue reached ¥877 million ($6.05 million) and operating profit hit ¥593 million ($4.09 million), providing strong operational backing for its treasury strategy.
