Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has significantly increased its Bitcoin reserves, acquiring an additional 1,111 BTC at an average price of $106,408 per coin. This strategic purchase brings the company’s total Bitcoin holdings to 11,111 BTC.
The acquisition aligns with Metaplanet’s ambitious plan to accumulate 100,000 BTC by the end of 2026. Achieving this target would require purchasing approximately 5,000 BTC monthly over the next 18 months. The company currently stands 37% toward its nearer-term goal of holding 30,000 BTC by year-end.
Metaplanet reported strong performance from its Bitcoin investments, with a yield of 107.9% recorded between April and June. This follows previous quarterly yields of 95.6% and 309.8%, demonstrating consistent returns from its cryptocurrency strategy.
To fund its Bitcoin acquisition program, Metaplanet is implementing its ‘555M Plan,’ involving the issuance of approximately $5.3 billion in capital. Despite this aggressive expansion, the company’s stock declined 8.2% on the purchase announcement day, closing at ¥1,635 ($10.25), reflecting ongoing market uncertainties.
