Japanese investment firm Metaplanet Inc. has significantly increased its Bitcoin treasury, acquiring an additional 1,005 BTC.
The new purchases were executed at an average price of $107,430 per coin, elevating Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings to 13,350 BTC.
Funding for a significant portion of this Bitcoin acquisition comes from the recent issuance of 30 billion yen ($207 million) in zero-interest bonds. These bonds mature in December 2025.
The firm has demonstrated robust investment performance in recent months, with its BTC Yield metric surging sharply from 95.6% to 129.4% between April and June.
This aggressive accumulation strategy is part of Metaplanet’s ambitious ‘555 Million Plan’. The goal of this corporate strategy is to raise ¥555 billion ($5.4 billion) and accumulate 210,000 BTC by 2027.
Accumulating 210,000 BTC would represent ownership of approximately 1% of Bitcoin’s total supply.
Metaplanet accelerated its Bitcoin purchases significantly during June, acquiring over 3,400 BTC across three separate transactions within the month.
