Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has significantly increased its Bitcoin treasury, purchasing an additional 780 BTC worth approximately $92 million.
This acquisition elevates Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings to 17,132 BTC, representing a market value of roughly $1.73 billion.
The move is part of an aggressive strategic initiative whereby Metaplanet intends to accumulate over 210,000 Bitcoin by 2027, positioning itself as a leading global corporate holder and institutional player in Bitcoin adoption.
Financing for Metaplanet’s ongoing Bitcoin accumulation strategy stems from capital market activities, including bond redemptions and equity issuance.
Strong trading activity on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, with June volume reaching 1.86 trillion yen ($12.65 billion), is attributed to providing the necessary liquidity backdrop for such significant moves.
Complementing this accumulation strategy, Bitcoin’s performance metrics remain robust, with July showing a 22.5% gain and the second quarter of 2025 delivering significant returns of 129.4%.
