Metaplanet Announces $5 Billion Bitcoin Acquisition Strategy Targeting 1% of Total Supply

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has unveiled an ambitious plan to acquire 210,000 BTC by 2027 through a $5 billion capital allocation, positioning itself to hold approximately 1% of Bitcoin’s total supply. This strategic move signals a significant corporate commitment to cryptocurrency asset accumulation.

Central to this initiative is Metaplanet’s U.S. subsidiary MTPLF, which aims to secure 30,000 BTC by the end of 2025 as part of the broader ‘555 Million Plan’. Despite initial investor enthusiasm that briefly pushed MTPLF shares to $15, the stock later declined by 6% to $11.64 in U.S. markets and 5.38% to 1,547 JPY on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The company intends to establish a globally integrated Bitcoin treasury model, enhancing Bitcoin-based financial products across Japan and the United States. Analysts suggest that controlling 1% of Bitcoin’s total supply could substantially influence market dynamics and shift institutional investor sentiment.

Metaplanet’s $5 billion capital deployment underscores strong confidence in Bitcoin’s long-term value proposition despite recent stock volatility. This treasury strategy represents one of the largest corporate Bitcoin accumulation efforts to date.
