Metaplanet Aggressively Expands Bitcoin Holdings to 15,555 BTC with $1.7 Billion Valuation

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet Inc. has substantially increased its Bitcoin treasury, acquiring an additional 2,205 BTC in a strategic move that elevates its total holdings to 15,555 Bitcoin. Valued at approximately $1.7 billion, this acquisition reflects the company’s accelerating commitment to digital assets.

The purchase, executed for roughly 31.7 billion yen, marks a dramatic expansion from Metaplanet’s previous holdings of just 4,000 BTC four months ago. This aggressive accumulation underscores the firm’s bold strategy to position Bitcoin as a cornerstone asset on its balance sheet.

Following this announcement, Metaplanet’s stock rose 0.39% to reach 1,551 yen per share despite ongoing market volatility. The company simultaneously reported strong Q2 performance, achieving a 42.4% year-over-year revenue increase to 1.1 billion yen, primarily fueled by Bitcoin-centric operations.

CEO Simon Gerovich confirmed ambitious expansion targets, revealing that Metaplanet intends to amplify its reserves to 100,000 BTC by 2026 and 210,000 BTC by 2027. These aspirations highlight a long-term corporate shift toward cryptocurrency integration.
