Metaplanet Accelerates Bitcoin Strategy, Targets 1% of Total Supply by 2027

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has announced it has surpassed its initial target of holding 10,000 Bitcoin (BTC) ahead of schedule. The company now aims to significantly expand its holdings to 100,000 BTC by 2026 and 210,000 BTC by 2027, representing approximately 1% of Bitcoin’s total supply.

This accelerated strategy, an update to its ’21 Million Plan’, was funded in part by a recent acquisition of 1,112 BTC at an average price of $105,000. This purchase, financed through a $210 million zero-interest bond issuance, brought Metaplanet’s total holdings to the 10,000 BTC milestone.

To track its progress, Metaplanet utilizes metrics like BTC Yield, which measures Bitcoin accumulation per share. The firm reported a BTC Yield of 87.2% for the second quarter of 2025.

Capital raising efforts supporting this aggressive Bitcoin acquisition include a January 2025 issuance of 21 million new share rights to EVO Fund. These innovative financial strategies underpin the company’s commitment to becoming a major institutional holder.

Metaplanet currently holds the position of Asia’s largest corporate Bitcoin holder and ranks as the eighth largest corporate holder globally, solidifying its leadership role in institutional cryptocurrency investment.
