Industry Leaders Urge Passage of CLARITY Act as US Lawmakers Push Crypto Regulatory Framework

The CLARITY Act has emerged as pivotal legislation seeking to clarify regulatory jurisdiction between the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over digital assets. Its primary objective is to assign oversight of most cryptocurrencies to the CFTC, aiming to eliminate regulatory ambiguity and encourage broader participation in the crypto industry.

Major industry players including OpenSea and Dapper Labs have advocated for urgent passage of the legislation. They warn that prolonged regulatory uncertainty risks driving innovative companies to relocate to jurisdictions with clearer frameworks, potentially undermining US leadership in blockchain technology development.

Republican leaders in the House have designated an upcoming legislative week as ‘Crypto Week’, prioritizing advancement of the CLARITY Act alongside related crypto bills. However, the proposal faces opposition from several Senate and House Democrats who contend its scope could exempt high-risk crypto activities from necessary SEC oversight.

The outcome of this legislative effort is poised to fundamentally shape the US cryptocurrency market structure. Industry analysts emphasize that effective resolution of CFTC-SEC jurisdictional boundaries could establish foundational clarity for institutional participation and long-term growth of the digital asset ecosystem.
