France’s private sector experienced broad-based contraction in June as key Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) metrics underperformed market expectations across all categories.
The Composite PMI recorded 48.5 for the month, falling short of the 49.3 consensus estimate and remaining below the 50-point threshold that separates expansion from contraction.
Service sector activity declined to a PMI reading of 48.7, below the projected 49.2, while manufacturing activity contracted more significantly at 47.8 versus the anticipated 50.0 breakeven level.
These results collectively signal renewed economic headwinds in France, with manufacturing demonstrating particular weakness during the period.
