eToro has announced the launch of tokenized versions of 100 leading US-listed stocks and ETFs as ERC-20 tokens on the Ethereum blockchain. This initiative enables round-the-clock trading during market weekdays (24/5) and integrates traditional equities with decentralized finance ecosystems.
According to eToro CEO Yoni Assia, the tokenization eliminates conventional barriers to stock ownership, providing investors with greater transparency and asset control. The solution includes self-custody capabilities, allowing users to manage tokenized holdings independent of eToro’s platform.
The project emerges amidst significant growth in real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, a sector valued at $21.3 billion. Tokenized equities currently represent $418 million of this market, signaling substantial expansion potential beyond their current niche adoption.
Tokenized stocks on Ethereum offer decentralized record-keeping, enhanced liquidity, and transactional flexibility unavailable through traditional systems. This aligns with eToro’s vision to democratize finance by broadening access to investment instruments.
Investors may transfer tokenized stocks to personal wallets or DeFi protocols, enabling direct utilization within decentralized applications for activities including lending and yield generation while maintaining full ownership control.
