Ripple Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz has confirmed the forthcoming launch of an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible sidechain for the XRP Ledger in Q2 2025.
The sidechain aims to foster seamless interoperability between the XRP Ledger and Ethereum ecosystems, unlocking new decentralized finance (DeFi) opportunities while allowing developers to leverage Ethereum-based smart contracts on XRPL’s high-throughput network.
Developed by Peersyst Technology using Cosmos’s evmOS stack, the solution combines XRPL’s transaction efficiency with Ethereum’s programmability. Multiple DeFi protocols including Strobe Finance and Vertex Protocol have committed to building on the sidechain post-launch.
Key development milestones included an initial devnet release and subsequent testnet deployment. The Q2 2025 mainnet launch is expected to strengthen Ripple’s market position by attracting broader institutional and retail engagement with XRP through enhanced cross-chain capabilities.
