AI developer Anthropic is pursuing fresh funding aiming for a $150 billion valuation through a $3 billion to $5 billion capital raise. This represents a substantial leap from the company’s prior $61.5 billion valuation established last year.
Highlighting the consequences of FTX’s collapse, the exchange’s early $500 million investment in Anthropic — securing an 8% stake in 2021 — would have surged to an estimated $12 billion valuation had it been retained. FTX instead liquidated the Anthropic stake for $1.4 billion during bankruptcy proceedings while Anthropic was valued at $18 billion.
Separately, FTX has initiated creditor repayments, distributing approximately $5 billion to claimants as of May 30 documentation. However, claimants from 49 restricted jurisdictions remain excluded from repayments. The scale of Anthropic’s funding round signals enduring bullish sentiment surrounding AI investments, contrasting with FTX’s unresolved bankruptcy complexities impacting creditors and stakeholders.
